Dr. John Asghar introduces VR surgical training system to Florida hospitals

BeckerSpine.com – West Palm Beach, Fla.-based St. Mary’s Medical Center and Palm Beach Children’s Hospital were among the first hospitals in the state to use Immertec’s Medoptic virtual reality surgical training platform, South Florida Hospital News reported Oct. 15.

Four things to know:

1. The virtual event featured John Asghar, MD, a spine surgeon at Paley Orthopedic and Spine Institute in West Palm Beach.

2. Medoptic enables surgeons to virtually scrub in to a live procedure through a VR headset.

3. The technology provides more accessible training opportunities for surgeons interested in learning about new techniques, devices or procedures.

4. Medoptic uses 3D teleconferencing technology, a mobile scheduling app and VR to stream live 4K video with audio conferencing for real-time collaboration and communication.
